What’s Goin’ On in the NT: May 2017

The month of May is storming in with bangin’ live music, short film festivals, fishing competitions and community festivities to keep you and your mates entertained all month long, no matter what you’re into.

Are you spewin’ because you missed out on seeing the legendary Bee Gees perform? Do you just miss that incredible vocal pitch synonymous with disco and the 70’s?

What if I told you that you could take a step back in time and enjoy all your favourite hits performed by a bunch of guys who kinda look like the Bee Gees in their prime? What!? That’s crazy! But, it’s true!

The Australian Bee Gees Show performs regularly in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada and are now on a world tour to spread their own brand of Saturday Night Fever.

 Apia Good Times Tour 2017

Now, I know exactly what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “I don’t want to go to just any music festival. I want to go to a music festival presented by one of Australia’s most well known insurance companies. That’d be Bonza!”

Well, have no fear – Apia is here. Ok, I may be speaking in jest, but the Apia Good Times Tour actually has some of Australia’s top music artists from a few eras back.

The 2017 tour is made up of Aussie music icons such as:

  • The Black Sorrows with Vika & Linda Bull
  • Colin Hay (Men at Work)
  • Deborah Conway
  • Mental as Anything

People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS

Pfffft, move over Splendour in the Grass because it’s time to take it up a notch with the People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS Festival.

Head on up to Darwin with ya mates for this awesome music event featuring acts like:

Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival

Seabreeze is a free festival held on the Darwin shoreline by the Timor Sea. This community event provides a number of attractions such as:

  • Spoken word performances
  • Sand sculpture competitions

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 

If you love mountain climbing, or are scared of heights but still like to enjoy the scenery, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival is for you.

This event showcases some of the top entrants to the BANFF film festival with documentaries and short films about mountain climbing and its associated lifestyle.

27th Orchid Spectacular 

If flora is more your thing, you won’t want to miss this years Orchid Spectacular, the largest Orchid show in the Northern Territory.

At this event you can mingle and pick the brains of other Orchid experts and enthusiast, and even purchase a few specimens to take home.

Entry is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors while kids get in for free.

This event will be held on Saturday the 20th to Sunday the 21st of May, 2017 at the Foskey Pavilion, Darwin Showgrounds.

 NT Barramundi Classic

If sport fishing is more your cup of tea, you definitely don’t want to miss out on the NT Barramundi Classic held on the Daly river, 250km south of Darwin city.

Watch or join in with your mates as teams compete over five days, tangling with the NT’s most sought after fish, to see who will take home the coveted Barra on a Stick.
